Członkami Aurehoej Choir and
Orchestra są uczniowie w wieku 16-19 lat z liceum w
Kopenhadze.
W czasie roku
szkolnego zespół daje kilkanaście koncertów; w szkołach,
kościołach i salach koncertowych. Na repertuar składają się
solowe występy, śpiew chóralny, muzyka popularna i klasyczne
Instytutu Kultury i Biblioteki Publicznej Miasta i Gminy w
Śremie.

A Presentation of Aurehoej Choir and Orchestra.
The members of the two ensembles are upper secondary school students at Aurehoej Gymnasium in Copenhagen, Denmark. The students are between 16 and 19 years old. Both ensembles include beginners as well as intermediate and a few advanced singers and instrumentalists.
Unfortunately, most public schools in Denmark do not give high priority to classical music, which is part of the reason why interest in classical music among young people has for a long time been on the decline. However, at Aurehoej Gymnasium any student with a good voice may participate in the school choir, and any student who plays an instrument may participate in the school orchestra. Thus Aurehoej students are given a unique opportunity to educate themselves within the field of a mainly classical musical repertoire.
During the school year, Aurehoej Choir and Orchestra give several concerts together, at the school as well as in local churches, the repertoire being a mixture of a cappella singing, music for choir and orchestra and sometimes also soloists, and orchestral works of a moderate degree of difficulty. In addition, the choir sometimes sings popular music, accompanied by an ad hoc jazz trio, consisting of students from the school. Every other year, Aurehoej Choir and Orchestra perform an opera or an operetta, and in alternating years the two ensembles go to a European country for a week in early spring to give concerts.
The concert programme for the tour to Poland in March 2007 features Scandinavian music by Swedish Lars-Erik Larsson and various Danish composers: Romantic Niels W. Gade, 20th century Carl Nielsen and contemporary Niels La Cour. In addition the choir sings music by Mozart, and the orchestra plays an instrumental version of the beautiful Vocalise by Rachmaninoff, two movements from Tchaikovsky’s The Nut Cracker, and a Jazz Waltz by Shostakovich. Together with the jazz trio the choir sings jazz standards and songs by Swedish singer-songwriters Lisa Ekdahl and Lisa Nilsson.
Clearly, an important aim of the everyday work with singing and playing music is to give students at Aurehoej Gymnasium knowledge and understanding of a wide variety of musical works. A blend of classical masters and modern music provides an awareness of different styles and genres which contributes to developing the sensitivity and musicality of the young student. Though the technical skills of the amateur singer or musician may not always match demands for a high-quality performance, the meeting with continual musical challenges is the emblem of the musical profile of Aurehoej Choir and Orchestra.
